Ventures in Community (VIC)

WHAT IS VIC?

Advocating and serving those in need, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church joins many local faith communities, such as Groveton Baptist Church, Rising Hope UMC, Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Heritage Presbyterian Church, Wesley UMC, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Aldersgate UMC, Mount Vernon UMC, Mount Vernon Presbyterian, Bethlehem Baptist Church in support of the VIC Program.

This non-partisan faith-based program was established to advocate for and serve those in need.  It is an organization of faith communities and other nonprofits serving Southeast Fairfax County.  The focus is to help those less fortunate by assisting in the issues of homelessness, affordable housing, food for children, etc.

St. Mark’s also participates with the Hypothermia Outreach Program to assist the homeless.  Cold nights are killers. One block off of Route 1 at 8220 Russell Rd, Rising Hope Church opens its doors every night to provide homeless men and women with a warm place to sleep, a good meal, and an opportunity to receive the counseling and support they need to get off the street.
