River Farm presents Social Justice Speaker 1/26

River Farm is excited to announce that George Jones, director of the DC-based organization Bread for the City, will be coming to speak to their group on Friday, January 26, at 7:30pm in Patience Hall. Bread for the City is an NGO committed to helping DC residents move out of poverty. To do so, they offer a number of different social services including food, clothing, medical care, and job-search assistance. They also operate an orchard and partner with other DC-area orgs and schools.

In his talk, George will be speaking about how—and why—he has helped move his organization toward having a racial equity lens. He’ll go over key terms and concepts, including “racial equity,” “implicit bias,” and a “racial equity analysis,” and speak to why these terms need to be understood and embraced as tools and part of a framework that aids in the effort to tackle race based disparities.

They can’t stress enough how excited they are  that their group has this rare opportunity; it’s a chance to learn about social justice and organizational change from an expert. Please mark your calendars and find childcare now! If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Emily Paterson at Emily@riverfarmcooperative.com.
