Serving Ministry (Communication & Outreach)

The Serving Ministry involves service to the congregation and service to the world.  It includes the activities of:

Communication (church publicity, newsletter, web page, Facebook, etc.)  The Holy Folders is a group who meets at 10 a.m.on Thursday mornings to fold bulletins, announcements, and newsletters.  Although they officially fall under Communications, they are also listed under the Fellowship ministries on this website as it is a wonderful way for people to meet and visit while performing a much needed activity.  We send out announcements and messages once a weekly by email. If you are not receiving the e-Blasts and would like to be added to the distribution list, please provide our church administrator with your email address.

Outreach Our Outreach Coordinator oversees all outreach ministries, recruits volunteers, plans and conducts programs, informs the congregation on the needs of others, solicits contributions, and disburses/distributes the church's gifts to ministries supported by the church, such as:

United Community Ministries (UCM) Food Pantry  - please visit our UCM page.

Loaves and Fishes - This program supports the two homeless shelters in the Mount Vernon area.  Once a month, volunteers from the church purchase food and cook at each shelter, providing both nourishing food (all from scratch) and a loving presence.  In addition, volunteers assist at the shelter to prepare Friday meals.

Salvation Army Angel Tree - St. Mark's helps the Salvation Army by donating gifts to needy children in the community.

Crop Walk, Send a Kid to Camp, Walk for the Homeless

United Thank Offering (UTO) Ingatherings - The United Thank Offering is a personal and family devotional program of The Episcopal Church. These gifts of thanksgiving – coins and bills dropped in the UTO Blue Box – from each individual are combined to total nearly $3 million each year.  These gifts are used to support and strengthen the mission and ministry of the Church throughout the world.
